Tigers improve to 4-0

A short preseason period hasn’t been enough to slow down the Mamaroneck girls lacrosse team this spring as the Tigers have come out of the gate hot, rattling off a four-game winning streak in the first week of the season. On May 7, the Tigers earned perhaps their most impressive victory to date, an 18-7 romp over their rivals from White Plains.

The meeting between the Tiger teams started off evenly matched, as the two squads traded goals early on in the first quarter. But with the score tied 3-3, Mamaroneck wrested control of the game, rattling off the next six goals and eventually burying the visitors by a nine-score margin.

“Honestly, I think we just needed to calm down and play our game,” Mamaroneck coach Rocky Lividini said. “We got out there and I thought we were a little bit frantic but we got in the swing of things, started communicating better on defense and taking better shots.”

Riley Moore and Dillon Troy did the lion’s share of the damage for the Tigers, scoring six and five goals, respectively. Mamaroneck saw six players tally goals on the day, something that has been a calling card of the club through its first four games.

Mamaroneck has outscored its opponents 68-26.

“We have a small roster with only 21 kids on varsity, but we’re seeing five or six people scoring each game,” Lividini said. “We have a ton of depth, and whether it’s starters or people on the bench, we have full trust in all 21 kids.”

Although the Tigers enter the week with a perfect record, Lividini noted that the difficulty of the team’s schedule will ramp up considerably in the coming days. The Tigers will take on 2019 Class D state finalist Bronxville on May 18 and have a two-game set against a solid Rye team later in the month.

“We’ve got a really challenging schedule ahead of us, so we’re definitely going to be tested,” she said. “As we get to these more competitive teams we’re going to have to make sure we keep our composure and that our stick skills are on point.”

Lividini added that the Tigers’ offensive balance should give them a fighting chance, even against some of Section I’s storied programs.

“We have a good mix and a whole lot of talent out there as a whole, so we are excited.” she said. “We have just been doing a really good job putting the ball in the back of the net.”
